A SHORT STORY - The Last Dragon Mage

The sun had barely risen when Arinna, the last known dragon mage, began her journey. The fate of her entire species lay in her hands, and she knew the task ahead of her would be arduous.

Arinna's people had once lived in harmony with humans and other magical creatures, but that all changed when the Great War broke out. The humans, led by the power-hungry High King, had waged a ruthless campaign to wipe out all magical beings.

The dragons, with their fierce strength and deadly fire breath, had been the humans' primary target. They had been hunted down one by one, until only a handful remained. The dragon mages, a special order of dragon riders who wielded powerful magic, had tried to protect their kin, but they too were greatly outnumbered.

Arinna's own parents had perished in the war, leaving her as the only known dragon mage in the land. She had spent the last few years in hiding, training tirelessly in secret to hone her skills and prepare for the day when she would venture out to save her species.

Now, armed with only her wits, her dragon, and the knowledge passed down to her by her ancestors, Arinna set out on her quest. She knew that the last remaining dragon egg was hidden somewhere in the treacherous mountains, guarded by fierce monsters and unknown dangers.

As she soared high above the clouds on her dragon's back, Arinna couldn't help but feel a mix of fear and determination. She knew that her journey would not be easy, but the thought of her people's survival drove her forward.

Along the way, Arinna encountered various creatures and races, some of whom offered their aid while others sought to hinder her progress. She also discovered ancient weapons and tools that had been lost for centuries, each with their own unique powers and abilities.

Despite the obstacles, Arinna persisted, relying on her strength, her dragon's fire, and her magic to overcome each challenge. And when she finally reached the mountaintop and found the last dragon egg, she knew that her journey had been worth it.

With the egg safely in her possession, Arinna returned to her people, and together they hatched the last dragon. As the young dragon took to the skies, Arinna knew that her species had a chance to survive and thrive once again.

From that day on, Arinna became known as the Last Dragon Mage, a legendary figure who had saved her people from certain extinction. And though the world remained a dangerous and uncertain place, Arinna knew that she had made a difference, and that was all that mattered.

Arinna watched with pride as the young dragon flew around in circles, its scales shimmering in the sunlight. She could feel the weight of the responsibility on her shoulders slowly lift as she realized that her mission had been successful.

The other dragons, who had been in hiding for so long, slowly emerged from their hiding places to witness the miracle of the new hatchling. They gathered around Arinna, who gently stroked the head of the young dragon, which nuzzled into her hand.

As she stood there, surrounded by her kin, Arinna's thoughts drifted back to the time when she had first learned about her magical abilities. She had been just a little girl when her parents had taken her on a trip to the mountains to show her the natural beauty of the world. She had been fascinated by the sight of the dragons, soaring through the sky, their wings spread wide as they flew with the wind.

But then, the war had broken out, and everything had changed. Arinna had been forced to go into hiding, and she had spent years training in secret, preparing for the day when she would have to save her species. And now, that day had finally come.

But Arinna knew that her mission was not yet complete. The world was still a dangerous place, and the humans, who had almost wiped out the dragons, were still out there, hungry for power and control.

She knew that she had to work to bring about a lasting peace, to find a way for magical beings and humans to coexist without fear or animosity. And she was determined to do just that.

As the day drew to a close, Arinna mounted her dragon once more and set off into the sky. She had no clear destination in mind, but she knew that her journey was far from over.

She flew across the land, seeking out other magical beings, monsters, and races, and slowly building an army of allies. Together, they would fight for a better future, a world where all beings were treated with respect and kindness.

As she flew, Arinna realized that she had found a new purpose, a new reason to continue living. She was no longer just the Last Dragon Mage, but a leader, a warrior, and a protector.

And she would continue to fight for as long as it took, to ensure that her species and all others like them would never again be threatened with extinction.
